Learing Journing Reading

Hello everyone,

Last week we have been VERY busy doing all sorts of tests. We did tests for Reading and Maths.

I didn't get as high results then I did last year. Last year, for reading I got a lot of things right. This year I have dropped 5 points! My teacher said, I just over think. I'm very disappointed:( But I hope I can do better next time. Here is my results for my reading.

Acrostic Poem for an Amazing experience

Kia Ora folks,
Last week we had wonderful Terry, from Life Ed. We learn't about our lungs and what happens when you breathe in bad air and what damage it can do, and we also learnt about the 'systems' in our body. Today, we created an acrostic poem about a recent experiment. LAMB HEART observing! We touched, felt, smelt and even ate it! Well of course we cooked it though. I wanted you to tell you my experience through an acrostic poem. Here it is. :)

My Skittle Story

Hola Pals!

This week we did a really exciting Skittle experiment in our writing group, it was AMAZING!

So all we did was place Skittles into a shape in a deep plate and add warm water to it. Then we watched as the Skittles dissolved into a Rainbow! So I decided to write the 5 senses about it and then turn it into a story. Here is the finishing story. See if you can spot the 5 senses, hear, touch, see, taste, and feel.

Tropical world 5 senses writing

This week for our writing we have been focusing on the five senses: Taste, smell, touch, hear, and sight. So in our small buddy groups we had been given a picture and we had to describe the picture using the 5 senses. Later on we had been given a choice between 5 pictures write about. This is my story. See if you can spot the 5 senses.

Soft, delicate sand brushes against my warm feet as I walk towards the glistening ocean. Cold sea water gulps into my mouth making me wince. Island trees wave and sing over the green tropical forest. Fruit and leaves alert my nose making me hungry. Big clumps of waves jumping over my soul. A rush of ocean water rustling, kicking me to the surface. The sun blinding my eyes as I rise to my feet making me blink. Quickly planting myself into the sand not making one little move.  

Science Fair Preparation

Hello everyone,
This Term our topic is Up, Up and away and we are having a Science Fair tomorrow so our class decided to make our science fair related to Up, Up away. I am doing Elephant Toothpaste it is a really fun experiment. It is also related to Up, Up and Away because it explodes up in the air. All you need is a plastic bottle, dry yeast, hot water, teaspoon for mixing, hydrogen peroxide, and dish washing liquid. I am in a group of 5. Taylor, Hollie, Mia, Lani are in my Science Fair Group. Our Results came out Perfect.

Science Experiments Week 2

We have been doing science experiments in preparation for the science fair. Today we made a Hoop glider, it was really easy I reckon. First time we flew it, it was a BIG fail. We tried it again and it worked. Here is a video of one of our experiments.

Foaming and Fizzing Report

Hola Everyone,
This week we did a experiment about vinegar and baking powder mixed together. Guess what? We had to eat both ingredients, Yuk! First we poured a certain amount of vinegar into a plastic cup, then poured 1/2 a teaspoon and then carefully poured it in with the vinegar.  It went all foamy and started to rise up.

Being in Team Maunga Iti

This week, it was Zoofari but I couldn't go because I went on the trip last year. Zoofari is when you go to Auckland and stay the night at the zoo in the Old Elephant house, and you go on night tours and see all the animals at the zoo. Their was ten of us left behind. We had to be put into different classrooms. I was in Team Maunga Iti ( 5 year olds ) with Kyra (my Friend). We had to help them with their learning and work. It was also fun because the seniors left behind got to set up sport and games for the little ones. It was harder than I thought.

So these are my cool friends that was helping me on Fun Friday, Fun Friday is when the seniors put on activities for the whole school. Our Activity was Minute to win it, so we did a whole lot of little activities that they had to do in a minute. We had stuff like egg races, ice buckets, hurtles, and hula hoops and more. Here is my multiplication progress for this year. In Term 1 I still had to learn my 5x tables so I was on Level 2 Stage 5.

In Term 2 I knew my 5x so now I have moved up to Level 3 Stage 6. I feel good but I need to keep learning because I still don’t know my 7x,9x and 12 tables.

Learning Journey Master 2017

Today I have been updating me Learning Journey Masters, a  Learning Journey Master is where we keep all our records of which Level we are in Writing, Maths, Spelling and Reading. So this is helpful for parents when they want to know where we are at for our learning.

Getting ready for Fun Friday

It is Exactly 10:00 and we are now getting ready for Fun Friday.Fun Friday is a day where us seniors set up activities for the juniors and seniors. My Activity is Minute to win it.We have eggs, ping pong balls and much more. In my Group is.... Kyra ,Lilly, Kate, Willow, Lani, Charlie-gurl, Waiorere,Taylor, and Hollie. Here is a pic of us.

Yesterday we did some work on Similes and Metaphors and put some in to a recount about Mothers' Day. .I am proud of the amount that I have written.

This Term our Topic is All Creatures Great and Small. So we have being comparing two different animals and been writing facts in a box and then in the middle you write about what they have in common. So I chose a Raccoon and Prairie dog. Here are some facts and common facts about them.

We had to create a vocabulary storyboard based on the book The Anzac Puppy.
I chose to create most of my images using the cartoon backgrounds and people that Storyboard-That has on it's site.
